EDIT: Grass is now grass shaped.
40 minutes with the palette knife ... making.. hundreds of... tiny grass blades :O_o:

*plots vengeance against those responsible for my motivation*
(specifically - ~ryuuseisui for having a birthday and =teirrah1995 who pointed it out)

Other crit still accepted. Just.. not the grass... Please...

Okay, last one tonight, I promise! ;P I suddenly remembered that it was ~ryuuseisui's birthday today - hah! It's a new day! It doesn't count as spamming!

Uh, anyway >.>

Happy Birthday. You're still old. But I painted you something older.

This is one of my favourite places in the whole world - Dartmoor.

Volcanic activity pushed the land up into hills, with granite lifted out of the top - these rock formations are called Tors and are BRILLIANT for rock climbing.
The view across the moors is amazing, and there's almost always a wind.

No references used, but to give you an idea:

Learnt something very new here - never really painted rocks or realistic landscapes before.

The shadow on the nearer part of the grass is from the rocks behind the viewpoint.

Grass has waaayyyy to much texture. Its as rugged as the rocks which is really taking the dept out of the image. To paint grass, you really need to use the brush tool and use lots of different tones. The paint will blend together and give you a illusion of grass, and by painting blades of grass close to the camera, it will look good.

Do you mind if I have a go at it? I have a great idea.

I thought of Dartmoor when I first saw it. Love the grass, especially the way it's illuminated.
I went to Dartmoor a few years ago. Visited Widdicombe then scampered up Hay Tor afterwards. Loved the emptiness.
