pools in troughs watch deep and dark
sharp reflections, fierce and stark
pale, silent foam thrown out to die
anguished waves crash down and sigh

silent dreams of little fishes
bubble screams and teeth so vicious
quiet waters, waves still and drawn
weary ripples, lined and gaunt...
Slowly working through my assignment for my fisheries class - recreational fishers and quotas and so on.
Getting quite annoyed with all the "but it is our right" and "we don't like reserves, they stop us fishing!" rants.
Considering the damage recreational fishers have managed to do to places like the Poor Knights, which are one of the most amazing dive spots and marine reserves in the world, after commercial fishing was banned, I'm having trouble seeing their case, here.

And it put me in mind of the ocean and the fish, huge and fierce yet so helpless in front of the trawls and the fishing lines and the nets... it's so empty now, when you go to the few marine reserves and look, there are fish everywhere. And none, if you go anywhere else.
And the sea keeps dying, over and over...

That isn't what this is about. But it is what started it off.

And perhaps, lurking there in the deep, is something fearful.. and mighty irritable
